DU, NWTF banquets on tap next weekend
The Nacogdoches County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and Pineywoods Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation 2009 fundraiser banquets are scheduled back-to-back next weekend.
The DU event is set for Friday at the Fredonia Hotel in downtown Nacogdoches. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Highlight live auction items include a three-day duck/swan hunt for two in North Carolina, youth/parent dove hunt for two pairs in Nacogdoches County, two-day dove hunt for four in Spade, redfish/trout fishing trip for two to Sabine Lake, three-day Argentina dove hunt for two, one-day guided crappie fishing trip for two and a 10-day South African plains game safari for four.
DU Committee member David Ash said the local chapter also will give away 35 guns by raffle, drawing or auction, and a lifetime resident hunting/fishing license. The license is valued at $1,000.
A pecan crusted chicken dinner will be served along with plenty of beverages. Tickets cost $60 for couples, $35 for singles. For more info, contact Robert Crow, 564-2437.
The Pineywoods NWTF banquet is scheduled for Saturday at Pitser Garrison Civic Center in Lufkin. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Committee member Dale Bounds said several quality hunts will be on a live auction table, including a Merriam's turkey hunt for two in South Dakota, a trophy deer hunt for two at Boggy Slough Hunting Club, a John Parker memorial Rio Grande turkey hunt for two at the King Ranch and a Rio Grande turkey hunt at the Buddy Temple Ranch.
There also will be 10-gun and 5-gun raffles, bucket raffles, games and a silent auction. An additional 15 guns will be given away.
Dinner will be prepared by Savoies of Louisiana. Tickets cost $80 for couples and $60 for singles. For more information or ticket sales, call 936-635-2116.
