Deuce Wulf is looking to do some serious hog control across southeast Texas, and he is putting a generous bounty on the heads of Pineywoods porkers in hopes that an army of hog hunters from across the region will join in the effort.

Wulf is the general manager of Wulf Outdoor Sports, an East Texas sporting goods retailer with outlets in Center and Athens. WOS is organizing the first annual Wild Hog Roundup on May 5-14. The contest motto says it all: "It's simple ... The hogs have got to go."

The Wild Hog Roundup is a winner-take-all hog hunting contest that will award $10,000 to the four-man team that kills the most hogs over the course of the 10-day event.

The contest also will award $500 per day for the most wild hogs killed each day. Plus, there is a Big Pig side pot that will pay $1,000 for the overall heaviest feral hog killed and checked in during the contest.

Entry fee is $150 for individuals or teams not to exceed four hunters.

Only feral hogs are eligible for entry. Hogs may be taken by any legal means, including trapping, from open range in Shelby, Panola, Sabine, Rusk, Nacogdoches and San Augustine counties.

No hunting is allowed until 6 p.m. May 5. Stockpiling of hogs prior to the event is not allowed. However, contestants may bait ahead of the contest.

The contest ends at noon May 14, followed by an awards ceremony and a Go Hog Wild Cookoff that will feature a guaranteed cash payout of $8,000 with three prizes awarded in pork rib and open categories, plus a People's Choice award of $1,000.
